Have you ever thought of purchasing a cologne and then boom! its price scares the hell out of you? That was me last summer, I had saved to buy Creed cologne, particluarly Creed Aventus. I checked prices on major stores both online and offline and was surprised to find that it was over priced. I am yet to find a Creed cologne that is low than $100 , I kid you not ! So, why is creed cologne so expensive?

Creed line of colognes are expensive because they use natural ingredients only such as Birch, Musk, Oud, oak moss, Ambroxan, Patchouli and Cedarwood. These ingredients are handpicked from some countries abroad, factor in the labour costs ,manufacturing costs, design costs , marketing costs , you will get a costly high- end product. That is not all, Creed is also associated with class, prestige and royalty. They claim they have been manufacturing fragrances for kings and queens since the 1700’s.

I was browsing online the other and people went crazy about Creed’s prices worldwide. Many in fact did not understand why they should pay much money for a cologne. This is why;

Why Is Creed Fragrances So Expensive?

1) Creed is Made from Rare and High Quality Ingredients

How much should cologne cost? Well, I get this question a lot. truth is it depends on a lot of factors. In the case of Creed, I know it sounds clinche’ but Creed is one fragrance brand that does not play when it comes to the ingredients they use. Infact, they go really overboard with them( in a good way).

Take for example ; Creed Aventus, this cologne is more than a decade old yet it rivals new fragrances we today have in the market because of its quality ingredients of Birch, Musk, oak moss, Ambroxan and Cedarwood.

Getting your hands on these ingredients ain’t easy. They’re scarce and the extraction process is tedious and long. Let’s just say it’s not a walk in the park. So yeah, that’s why Creed’s will cost you a pretty penny and can justify its cost.

2) Marketing Gimmicks and Historical Clout

Creed justifies its high price with marketing strategies and historical prestige. They say their family legacy dates back to crafting fragrances for royalty since the 1700s, even preceding Guerlain, pioneers of modern perfumery.

Creed also claims that it creates signature scents for countless celebrities and historical figures dead or alive. While these claims add to the allure, their validity is debated.

If this is indeed true, then it lends credence to the premium price, aligning with a rich heritage and exclusive clientele.

If it is just mere marketing tactics, then it rides on lies and perceived prestige to drive sales.

3) Capitalism

Another reason why Creed colognes are expensive is because of the elephant in the room- CAPITALISM. Some sharp entrepreneurs saw a chance to rake in the money, and boy, did they seize it! But you know what? I would still buy Creed today.

They’ve been holding it down in the quality department for ages. Sure, their staying power on skin might not be perfect, but hey, show me a perfect fragranceā€”I’ll wait!

Despite that, I’d still throw down some cash for that Creed goodness. Because, let’s face it, perfection’s overrated, and a little spritz of luxury never hurt nobody!

Why is Creed So Expensive in the US?

In the US, Creed’s pricing hinges significantly on its retail distribution strategy. They tightly control distribution, primarily through high-end department stores in major markets like New York and Los Angeles.

By limiting the number of retailers, they maintain uniform, inflated prices across the board. This approach positions Creed as a positional or even Veblen good, where exclusivity drives demand.

Conversely, Europe boasts a more saturated high-end fragrance market but also higher per-capita demand. This dynamic prioritizes volume over margin.

In contrast, the US market leans toward maximizing margin over volume due to its controlled distribution model and focus on exclusivity.

What Is Special About Creed Cologne?

What makes Creed Colognes stand out is its old-school approach to crafting scents. They still whip up their perfumes by hand, using mostly natural ingredients like Pineapple, musk, oud , amber,Patchouli, Moroccan Jasmine, and more.

And get this, Creed has a longevity of 6-8 hours on your skin, so you’re smelling fresh for hours.

Take Aventus, for example; it has a hint of jasmine sweetness, thanks to Ambroxan adding that extra oomph. It’s classy yet approachable, perfect for rocking with your favorite shirt. And, as it settles in, you’ll catch whiffs of musk and oakmoss, giving it that sexy edge.

Aventus isn’t your run-of-the-mill fragrance; it’s got that special something that makes heads turn.

Is Creed’s Pricing Worth Quality?

Based on my experience, Creed’s pricing absolutely matches its quality. With just three spritzes, I enjoy a solid 7 hours of projection within arm’s reachā€”it’s not overpowering, but definitely packs a punch.

I’ve been using my bottle for about 12 months now, and let me tell you, with each wear, the performance seems to get even better.

When you factor in the longevity and the evolving scent profile over time, Creed is definitely worth it for the quality you get.
